This notice explains what personal data S.W.Directional Drilling Ltd collects through this website, why we collect it, how we look after it and the rights you have over it. We keep it short and honest, because we collect very little.

Last updated June 2026.

Who we are

S.W.Directional Drilling Ltd is the data controller for the personal data collected through this website. We are a UK trenchless installation contractor registered in England & Wales. You can reach us about anything in this notice at:

What we collect, and when

The only personal data this website collects is what you choose to send us through our enquiry form. That is your name, your company (if you give one), your email address, your phone number, the site or location of your job, the type of work you need and any details you write in the message box.

If you email or call us directly instead, we will hold the contact details and information you give us in that message so we can deal with your enquiry.

We do not run advertising, analytics or visitor-tracking scripts on this site, so we are not building a profile of you or following you around the web. We do not ask for, and have no use for, any special-category data (such as health or background information) through this site.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

We use the information you send purely to respond to your enquiry, give you advice and a price, and carry out any work you go on to instruct. Our lawful basis under UK GDPR is:

  • Legitimate interests. Responding to an enquiry you have actively sent us, and running our business, is a legitimate interest that does not override your rights.
  • Performance of a contract. Where your enquiry leads to a quote or a job, we use your details to carry out and manage that work.
  • Legal obligation. We keep certain records (for example for tax and health-and-safety reasons) because the law requires it.

Cookies and third-party content

This website does not set its own tracking or advertising cookies. The fonts are hosted on our own server, so opening a page does not call out to any third party.

Some pages embed a video from our YouTube channel. We use a click-to-play setup over YouTube’s no-cookie domain, which means the video player, and any cookies YouTube would set, are only loaded if you actually click play. If you do play a video, that is governed by Google’s privacy policy. Until then, no YouTube cookies are placed on your device.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for marketing. We only pass it to others where it is needed to deal with your enquiry or run our business, namely:

  • Our website host and email provider, who process the enquiry on our behalf so it reaches our inbox.
  • Where a job goes ahead, the people who need it to deliver the work, such as the main contractor, client or a trusted subcontractor on that project.
  • Our professional advisers (for example our accountant or insurer) and any authority we are legally required to share information with.

We expect anyone who processes data for us to keep it secure and use it only for the agreed purpose.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information only as long as we need it. If an enquiry does not turn into work, we hold it for a reasonable period in case you come back to us, then delete it. Where a job goes ahead, we keep the project and financial records for as long as the law and our insurers require, after which they are securely destroyed.

How we protect it

Enquiries reach us by email and are held on business systems with access limited to the people who need it. We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to keep your data secure. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but we treat the information you give us with care.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to:

  • Be informed about how we use your personal data, which is the purpose of this notice.
  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification of any personal data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Erasure of your personal data where there is no longer a legitimate reason for us to keep it.
  • Restrict or object to our processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.
  • Data portability to receive the data you gave us in a portable format, where that right applies.

To exercise any of these, contact us at chris@swdd.co.uk. There is normally no charge, and we will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data-protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.
